This Week At HDSMS: 10-26

Hope everyone had a great weekend. We took the kids to the pumpkin patch for Owen’s first trip. As you can see, he was “thrilled” about our photo idea :-)

Hard to believe we are already in our last week of October. It really does go by so fast. Lots going on in the lead up to Halloween so please be sure to read through all the information below.

Information To Share

WE Scare Hunger Campaign: As part of the Me To We campaign, HD Stafford Middle School will be participating in the We Scare Hunger campaign, raising food and money for our local food banks. Students can bring in non-perishable food all week as well as money on Friday for the concession stand. There will also be candy grams sold out of Room 218. Any questions, please ask students to talk to Mrs. Lacroix.

Parents and children are welcome to come Monday thru Friday between 4pm and 8pm to enjoy this fun and scary event. Tickets are $3 for students, $5 for adults and can be purchased at the door. There is also a concession stand in support of Me To We.

Middle Years Development Instrument: In November, students in grade 7 will be completing an online survey as part of the Middle Years Development Instrument. This study will help us understand how children think and feel about their lives, both inside and outside of school during ages 9 to 13 (middle childhood years). Children in Grade 4 and Grade 7 will be asked to share their views by answering questions on the Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI). The MDI survey questions ask about areas of child development that are strongly linked to wellbeing, health and academic achievement. The project is administered by researchers at the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in partnership with school boards and the United Way of the Lower Mainland. The information collected in this study helps inform educational and community efforts to improve the lives of children Please click here for the parent information letter and form to withdraw your child from the assessment.
