Oct 15th Newsletter

Oct 15, 2015

School Superintendent Suzanne Hoffman started the evening by briefly discussing the Districts new 4 year strategic plan.  Details can be found on the School Board website.  Also discussed was the suspension of legislation for this school year allowing teachers an extra 10 hours (2 days) of planning time for implementing the new curriculum.  These hours will be taken from the calendar in the new year and announcements will be made to give all parents as much notice to this additional time off as possible.

Our school board will be receiving an award for saving the most money on hydro usage!  Way to go!  Other news from the Trustees include that they are currently working on the budget and that enrollment for the district is up this year, primarily on the Slope.

A new program called Eye See is in the works to be brought to our district.  Eye See provides eye exams by a Dr of Optometry for kindergarten students and also will provide one pair of eyeglasses per child if needed.

Instead of a speaker this month we had a round table discussion on fundraising.  It was interesting to hear how different fundraisers work for different schools.  Our DPAC secretary, Christine Trischuk-Brightman, is compiling a list of ideas and contact information to send out to PAC’s for our use in the future.

Do you have fundraising idea’s of your own??  Or a little extra time to help someone with theirs??  We’d love to see you at the next HD Stafford PAC meeting on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 6:30 pm!  “many hands make light work”
